CATRIONA Le May Doan, the World and Olympic speed skating champion in the 500m sprint, will be the keynote speaker October 1 at Trinity Western University's inaugural Spartan Hall of Fame Fundraiser Dinner.
Held at the Hyatt Regency in Vancouver, the dinner is open to athletes, sponsors and the public -- and in conjunction with the Hall of Fame induction, will be a fundraiser for Spartan Athletics' scholarships.
Le May Doan will share her insights on achieving her goals and the experience she has gained through trials and triumphs. In her 23-year skating career, she has captured numerous world championships, an Olympic record and various awards.
Le May Doan "has shown excellence both on and off the ice in her community, in her country and around the world," stated Lou Ragagnin, chief operating officer for the Canadian Olympic Committee. "It is her inspiration, her determination, her kindness, her vibrance, her national pride and her love of competition that make her such an outstanding individual and role model."
"TWU's Spartan Athletics has seen nearly 40 years of athletes and coaches with the same winning spirit as Le May Doan," says Julie Ratzlaff, athletic events manager and member of the inaugural Hall of Fame Committee. "It's now time to start honouring those who have made Spartan Athletics what it is today, and what it will be in the future." Call: 604-888-7511 ext 3719.
