Obama's harmony of intellect and Intuition

Obama's harmony of intellect and Intuition

In an open letter posted on the internet U2's Bono responded to the recent election of Barack Obama as President of the United States. An outspoken Christian, Bono is also widely known for his activism concerning Africa along with his influence upon national leaders. In 2002 he extracted a commitment from then Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin to increase overseas aid. He was later critical of Martin in a 2005 CBC Radio interview, alleging Prime Minister Martin was "being slow about increasing Canada's foreign aid."

Obama's Harmony of Intellect and Intuition

by Bono 11-07-2008

Mr. President, Barack,

Every room I have ever been in with you was a much easier room for your presence.

It's rare to meet a person like you, where intellect and intuition make such a perfect rhyme.

Your intuition tells you that the well-being of the American people, spiritually as well as physically, is connected with America's role in the world. I know you know that the prosperity of your fellow Americans, though hard fought, is less fulfilling knowing there is so much more that can be done to alleviate poverty and suffering in the developing world.

You know that less than 1 percent of government income as a contribution from the world's richest economy to the world's poorest is not a fair tithe -- even in times like these -- which is why you have promised to double foreign assistance. As with our own personal sojourn, so it is with country and community -- we discover who we are in service to others.

I know your intellect -- fashioned in the halls of Harvard and on the floor of the United States Senate -- has weighed up the evidence on how effective American tax dollars are, when converted into smart, targeted, focused aid. Putting children into school where they can think freely of freedom. Giving farmers on the parched land seed varieties that double the size of their crop yields. Giving mothers 20 cent immunizations to protect their newborns from the deadly viruses that they pass on through childbirth. I know your intellect has taken in the data and seen the analysis on the transformative power of effective aid in places where the United States flag is currently not one smiled at. I know you know how much cheaper it is to make friends of potential enemies than to defend yourself at a later date. I know you know all this stuff.

My prayer for you is that your instinct and intellect stay in harmony in the difficult months and triumphant years ahead.

I don't even know why this makes "Christian" news.

There is Chrisendom and there is Christianity within Chrisendom. Matt.13 Tears and the Wheat. to so many the tears and the wheat look alike, but the Lord knows who are His. As we judge with righteous judgment, not condemning judgment, allowing the Word of God to give light and discernment on these who claim the name of Christ, we will come to simple conclusions. Other places it may be harder to discern, but to call someone a Christian simply because they say they are is foolish. They are promoting a one world order - prearing the soil for the reign of the Antichrist. Who's spirit is now already at work in the sons of men.
Don't be deceived, God's kingdom has nothing to do with this world at this time.

Loveroftruth: You should begin living up to your name! Shame on you for spreading such rubbish. This is not the Jesus I know!

I guess I would have to agree, that I see little merit in giving publicity space to this 'e-mail'. What I'm noticing though, is that if 'Followers of Jesus quotes from Matthew 13 twice, and each time uses 'tears' instead of 'tares' (the correct translation) he may not be reading his Bible!

I will not pass any judgment concerning this " Bono " as to whether or not he is a born-again believer in Jesus Christ. That is not for me to determine. However, it is clear that he is far more more pre-occupied with issues that have little bearing on the gospel and that the advancement of the Kingdom of God on Earth. Would to God that he gave as much effort to evangelism as he gives to belittling some government leaders who do not subscribe to the same social activist programmes that he promotes.

I may not be able to spell very well. Thank you for the correction. When I read my Bible, I'ts hard to reconcile it with what I see not only in myself, but all around me.

I have been watching this tonight. It's quite hard to hear, but it sounds biblical.

What about the word in 1 John: "all that is of the world...is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away."

btw - follower of jesus - maybe we do know a different Jesus than one another. That is a fearful thing. If the Jesus you know is not the false Christ then it would seem that I'm not really in any trouble.

I did mention that "the Lord knows who are His". It's not my position to render a condemning judgment. But can we not judge with righteous judgment? What about, 'you shall know them by their fruits'? Two kinds of trees, two kinds of foundations, two kinds of 'Christians'. And on one side there will be those saying "Lord, Lord, did we not..." Virgins without oil. etc.
These are the Scriptures.
Please don't be angry with me.

I do understand that I am not to tear up the tares in case I harm the wheat. Jesus said that clearly in Matt.13. But they are growing up together, and He will judge between them in truth.

Really, what is Christ's greatest charge upon us: (Matthew 22:37-40) "Jesus replied, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and with all your mind, This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is LIKE it, "Love your neightbor as yourself. All the Law and Prophets hang on these two commandments."

Now ask yourself: What greater spread of evangelism could there be than living this out this commandment?

With today's technology, your neighbor is not just the house next door, it's Africa, it's Europe, It's Iraq, it's .. Global.

Do you call yourself a Christian? What are your actions? What gives you the right over the next person to say,"I'm a Christian".

Feeding the hungry and generally showing a concern for the welfare of others is fulfilling part of God's will. It is hard to see that as conflicting with the command to evangelize.
Of course, admiration for Obama's intellect should be accompanied by some intellectual knowledge of his extreme pro-abortion position, which should be made known also in the Christian press.
