Church response to the mentally ill

Comments

Are people of faith with a mental illness different from those who have a physical illness?

Yes, some may not be sufficiently aware to have faith. Your sentence presumes too much, as does this one:

While a person who has a physical illness even cancer suffers discomfort and anxiety related to the illness, those who have a mental illness suffer from a constellation of additional issues. These all affect their ability to return to wellness. One of them is stigma, both internally and externally imposed. There's also the loss of self-worth and self-efficacy that might come with a loss of job, friends, marriage and the feelings of being separated from God.

The majority of us are indiscernible from anyone else. Some have further issues, most of us do not.

I do not assign, validate or abet in the assignation of a "stigma," nor again, would anyone be able to discern my illness and assign that pretense.

My self worth has not dropped, I have not lost employment, marriage.

You presume, caricature, far too much. It is common, not only among coarse, but educated people.

As a christian whos husband has so-called Schizophrenia. I can honestly say that so-called therapy nearly destroyed my marriage, both church and secular "therapy". Mental illness is demonic. The simple fact there there is no single symptom for Schizophrenia or solid test to prove it, should be evidence enough that it doesnt exist as a physical disease. People curse themselves verbally by even calling it "my mental illness" They are giving the enemy legal ground to mess with their mind. What i have learned from these so-called support groups is that these people revel in "their disease" and the spouse is supposed to pat them on the head and except whatever garbage they deliver because its the "mental illness" talking after all. What bunk. I refuse to attend any longer. Anyone who has any spiritual insight whatsoever can see how demonized these people really are. I annoint the door post with oil before my husband comes home.
If,and thats a big if, there is a physical chemical imbalance for bipolar etc..{there is no way of measuring chemicals in the brain}. Naturapaths have cured depression and bipolar through diet and the use of herbs and vitamins. Typically the person must go completely organic, eat raw foods and absolutly no packaged or processed foods. I dont believe in therapy, its violating and christians should be turning to the word, not self help books and psychobabble.
