Katherine was in prison, serving eight years for armed robbery. She was filled with contempt for her parents who had refused to bail her out of jail after this most recent arrest. Still, week after week, her parents traveled to the prison to see her, only to be turned away each time.

But then something changed.

Three years into her sentence, Katherine finally agreed to see her parents.

"I knew the moment we laid eyes on her that my prayers had been answered," says her mother, Leah. "For the first time in years, our daughter hugged and kissed us. Her behaviour was completely different. There was a gentleness about her that we had never seen before."

"I've met someone important, Mom," Katherine said . "I've met God. I've found the kind of love I've been looking for all my life. One of the guards gave me a Bible and I've been studying it. I know that God has forgiven me for everything. I also know it's important for me to ask for your forgiveness." Sobbing almost uncontrollably, Leah and her husband responded by holding their daughter in their arms. By the time the visit was over in just over an hour years of heartache and worry had all but disappeared.

Before leaving the prison, Leah asked to see the guard that had given her daughter the Bible. "I want you to know," she said, "that every time I thank God for the miracle He has worked in my daughter's life, I will thank him for you as well."

The Canadian Bible Society works with prison chaplains across Canada to ensure that Bibles are available for people like Katherine.

This is just one of the many ways that the Bible Society sows God's Word that hearts and lives may be changed.
