Samaritan's Purse
Helping build God's kingdom . . .
Through Samaritan's Purse Mission Teams, volunteers are reaching out to assist needy communities - whether it involves constructing a Christian school in a remote Muslim area of Kenya, a sports centre in a Cambodia slum or churches in rural Nicaragua.
Pam Vokey led a team from her church in Newfoundland to help build a Christian school in Kenya this past summer.
Vokey cited several key factors for the group deciding to go on a Samaritan's Purse mission trip, including: our organization's extensive knowledge, experience and local partners; and her participation, for several consecutive years, in our annual Operation Christmas Child shoe box gift campaign.
"We have a responsibility to do our part - and when we do our part, God blesses it and makes it work," Vokey says.
This spring, a Mission Team from Calgary, Alberta spent two weeks in Telpaneca, a poor area in northern Nicaragua. Their goal was to help construct a church building for an active congregation of 40 members and 60 children - and they did just that.
While in the community, the group visited schools, held video evangelism events, and conducted eye clinics to provide eyeglasses to area residents. God used the team to make a noticeable difference in the community, spiritually and physically.
In addition to sending these teams to Kenya and Nicaragua, Samaritan's Purse - Canada conducted 14 other missions teams trips in 2006 - to Coast Rica, Indonesia, Mexico and other areas. More are planned for 2007, and Samaritan's Purse welcomes interest from additional groups and churches. Please give us a call at 1-800-663-6500, or email us at Canada@samaritan.org.
