Generous bookselling

A 90-page book called A 40-day Spiritual Journey to a More Generous Life has reached 200,000 copies in print in its first year. Author Brian Kluth, a senior pastor and stewardship speaker from Colorado Springs, CO, paid for the first printing of 15,000 copies after the book was turned down by several book publishers. The collection of 40 Bible-based devotions on managing finances is being ordered by churches, denominations, parachurch ministries and seminaries. The book is being translated into Spanish, Portuguese, Mongolian, Hindi, Serbian, Croatian, Afrikaans, Urdu and Punjabi.

Episcopal Church equivocal on same-sex unions

The House of Bishops of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America, meeting September 25 in New Orleans, stated that the denomination would not consecrate practising gays or lesbians as bishops or authorize public rites of blessing for same-sex unions. The statement was in response to an ultimatum by the worldwide Anglican communion. However, the statement is unlikely to satisfy conservative critics because the bishops said they would continue to discuss the issue, same-sex blessings will continue in many dioceses, and the statement affirmed gay and lesbian persons as "full and equal participants in the life of Christ's Church."

Reversing the moral tides

4MyCanada has scheduled its second Siege National Conference, 'Reverse the Curse,' for November 1 - 3 in Saint John, NB. Saint John was chosen because it was the first incorporated city in Canada and the home region of Leonard Tilley, who gave Canada its motto based on Psalm 72:8: "He will have dominion from sea to sea." Saint John is also the site of the Reversing Falls; the movement seeks to launch a spiritual revival that will reverse the "ungodly moral tides" that have been flowing over Canada for the past 40 years.
