100 years prayer for unity
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. Each year from January 18 - 25 it is an expression of the ecumenical movement -- a worldwide movement among Christians to heal the divisions within the Church; to promote dialogues among churches and Christian communities; and to encourage Christians everywhere to better understand and reflect the implications of "one Lord, one faith, one baptism."

RL Petersen awards announces finalists
Bridgeway Foundation has announced the finalists for this year's RL Petersen Awards for Non-Profit Innovation. They include Christian Blind Mission International of Stouffville, Ontario for the Hospital Partnership Communication Project in Kumi, Uganda; and Focus on the Family (Canada) of Langley, BC for the Ministry to Francophone Families Project. The public is invited to attend the 2008 awards ceremony April 30th at the University of Waterloo. The winner will receive an award of $20,000. Two Honourable Mentions will also be awarded, each receiving a $5,000 grant.
Orientations for Diocesan Sexual Abuse Protocols
Following the revision of From Pain to Hope, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) have published a 'document of orientations' to assist Catholic dioceses in Canada in updating their diocesan protocols for the prevention of sexual abuse. This document is now available on the CCCB website.

Winning Kids, based in Richmond Hill, Ontario, is a ministry that equips the church and organizations with resources to help ensure against child abuse. They have released online downloads that can help with abuse prevention and policy for all involved in care of kids.
Habits of defective sermons
What are the seven habits of highly defective sermons? The first bad habit is "not taking enough time with the biblical text," said Tom Long, keynote speaker at Canadian Mennonite University's recent ministry seminar. Long is professor of oreaching at Candler School of Theology in Atlanta, GA. Over 160 people attended, with participants coming from a variety of denominations and from as far west as Kelowna, BC and as far east as Ottawa.
Key leaders and influencers to meet at MissionFest Toronto
MissionFest Toronto has announced a one-day conference for pastors and workplace leaders called 'ON Purpose.' Designed to bring together leaders from both the church and the workplace crossing all denominational, ethnic and generational borders, it aims to build of ministry. James Robison, founder and president of Life Outreach International and co-host of Life Today, a 30-minute talk show that can be seen in more than 200 million households worldwide, will speak along with Charles Price of the Peoples Church, Lorna Dueck of Listen Up TV and others. Hunger Response raises rice in February
Hunger Response International (HRI) of Abbotsford, BC is running the 'Rice Raiser' campaign throughout February to help address global hunger on the local level and international levels at the same time. Students commit to collecting packaged bags of rice and funds. All the rice collected will be distributed to local people in need, and all the cash will be sent to developing nations through registered charities and used to purchase emergency food or things needed to produce food for the hungry. HRI partners with MCC, CAUSE Canada and Hungry For Life International for our global projects. 10 percent of the funds are sent to four different developing countries.
