It matters what you believe -- and it doesn't hurt to be friendly
Lutheran Church-Canada's WhatYouBelieve.ca website has received 4,000 visitors since it was launched last September. Almost 1,300 of the visitors -- 12 percent of whom don't regularly attend church -- have completed an online survey. Participants said their most important reasons for choosing a church were what the church believes and the friendliness of the congregation.
Fear of evangelism
The Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches is hosting its biennial Conference on Evangelism October 20 - 23 at the Algonquin Hotel and Resort in St. Andrews, New Brunswick. The theme is 'Understanding Ourselves and Our Times . . . Maximizing Evangelistic Impact!' John Stackhouse of Vancouver's Regent College will speak on 'Why Canadians Don't Care About and Even Fear Our Evangelism.'
EFC urges raising of age of consent
 | EFC's Don Hutchinson | Don Hutchinson, general legal counsel for the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada, spoke before the Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs February 22 in regard to the provisions of Bill C-2 in support of raising the age of consent to sexual activity with an adult from 14 to 16 years. EFC has provided its submission online, along with audio of the Senate Committee session.
Turkey leaders visit
International Needs Network Canada will host a speaking tour by Bhenan Konutgan, the network's director for Turkey, March 4 - 10. Konutgan is one of the Christian leaders who helped the families and churches of the three Christians killed in a Turkey Christian publishing house murder in April 2007. "The command to love our neighbors is very important to us here in Turkey," says Konutgan. "We are pressured by the Muslim culture every day. We know they don't want us here. As Christians we are aware that we will pass through great persecution."

Canadian Evangelicals advocate for Chinese leaders
The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada's Religious Liberty Commission has sent a letter to Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs and issued a prayer alert and advocacy request for 21 Chinese House church leaders who have been sentenced to one to three years of labor camp because of their involvement in China's house church movement.
Business leaders challenged
More than 300 Christian business people from across Canada will gather in Toronto April 2 - 4 for the second annual Purpose@Work conference. Purpose@Work seeks to challenge, encourage and equip men and women to live out their Christian faith in the business world. The speaker is Ed Silvoso, whose book Anointed for Business is considered a groundbreaking classic in the area of the role of the church in the marketplace. Other featured speakers include: David Rae, a former president of Apple Canada; and Shaila Visser, director of Alpha in the Workplace International, which reaches people in offices and factories around the world.
CRC releases final report on Catholic Eucharist
After 10 years of study, dialogue, and debate, the Christian Reformed Church in North America has released its final report clarifying the CRC's stance on the Lord's Supper as it relates to the Roman Catholic Church. Recently posted and made available on the CRCNA website, 'The Lord's Supper and the Catholic Mass' is the result of extensive evaluation and discussion between CRC and Catholic educators and theologians.
Providence Student Life Centre
Providence College and Seminary in Otterburne, Manitoba has prepared some 800 students over the last 20 years to go out and serve in literacy around the world. The college will be groundbreaking February 29 to commence building the new Providence Student Life Centre, with Lieutenant Governor medal-winner Gail Tiessen as speaker.
New Catholic directory
The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has released its 2008 Directory. This yearly publication contains information on the Holy Father and the Apostolic Nunciature, The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops, Bishops and Dioceses of Canada, Other Organizations of the Church and Diocesan Statistics.
