This ministry is finger-licking good

Seton Lee, one of the founders of Kampuchea for Christ (KFC), will visit cities across Canada -- Fort Erie, Halifax, Moncton, Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver -- to share his testimony and talk about his ministry, beginning May 2. KFC has planted 56 churches and 86 cell groups in Kampuchea (formerly Cambodia) since it was founded in 1995 and averages 150 conversions a month. Among its converts are three former generals in Pol Pot's regime, which murdered two million Cambodians between 1975 and 1979. KFC also works on Christian leadership training and hopes to build a Christian university. KFC is an indigenous ministry supported by Intercede International (formerly Christian Aid Mission) based in Fort Erie, Ontario.

A Canadian Bill for the World Team

Bill Allan has been appointed executive director of World Team Canada, effective August 1. He and his wife Michele have served with the organization since 1990 and have served as missionaries in Peru since 1994. World Team is an international Christian mission focusing on ministry to unreached peoples.

Teach us to write right

The 24th edition of Write! Canada, Canada's largest Christian writers' conference, will be held June 12 - 14 in Guelph, Ontario on the theme 'Tracing My Journey.' The keynote speakers will be three successful Canadian writers: romance novelist Carolyne Aarsen of Alberta, who has written 22 books; historical novelist Connie Brummel Cook of Ontario, who specializes in bringing Canadian history alive for young readers; and Denyse O'Leary of Ontario, a journalist and science writer.

Teach us to pray

National House of Prayer and Cityscape Prayer Ministries are offering a National School of Intercession at Green Hill Lake Camp near Fredericton June 19 - 22. The program will include extensive teaching on prayer, as well as prayer sessions. Early bird registration deadline is May 19.

Teach us to worship

A Unite in Worship conference will be held at Rock Church in Halifax May 25 - 26. Worship leaders will be Robin Mark, Brian Doerksen and Paul Khosia, and keynote speakers will be Calvin Miller and Barry Adams.

Hillsong is alive with the sound of music

I Heart Revolution: We're All in This Together, a movie showing highlights of Hillsong United's concerts around the world, will be shown in more than 55 movie theatres across Canada May 21. Hillsong United is the international worship ministry of Hillsong Music, which is itself a ministry of Hillsong Church. Hillsong Church was started in Sydney, Australia by Brian and Biobbie Houston in 1983 and now has over 20,000 attenders in two locations. Hillsong worship songs are sung in churches all around the world, and the denomination also has extensive social ministries. There are now Hillsong churches in London, Kiev and Capetown, South Africa.

The 39th annual Summer Institute of Church Music (SICM) will be held at Trafalgar Castle School in Whitby, Ontario on the theme 'Songs and Stories of our Faith' July 6 - 11. While SICM includes workshops on newer trends in worship music, the focus tends to be on more traditional music such as choirs and organ music.

I am Leo, hear me roar

I Am The Canadian Delegate has been nominated for three of the BC film industry's annual Leo Awards -- Best Documentary, Best Director and Best Writer. The film documents the life of Douglas Jung, Canada's first Chinese MP. The filmmaker is Wesley Lowe, a member of the board of Christian Info Services, the organization that produces CanadianChristianity.com.

CIDA improved health care

The Canadian International Development Agency and Canadian Lutheran World Relief are contributing $632,000 to Augusta Victoria Hospital in East Jerusalem. The funding will allow the hospital to expand its geriatric care ward from 16 to 28 beds. It is the only institution in the Palestinian Territories offering specialized medical services such as cancer treatment and kidney dialysis.

Gold may be the root of all threats

On April 22, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops wrote to Alvaro Colom, President of Guatemala, to express concern over death threats against Alvaro Ramazzini, the Roman Catholic Bishop of San Marcos. Ramazzini has been very critical of human rights and environmental abuses associated with the activities associated witrh Canadian gold mining companies in Guatemala, particularly Goldcorps Inc., also known as Glamis Gold.
