Case being driven by religious rights

The Supreme Court of Canada has approved an application by the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC) to intervene in a court case between the government of Alberta and the Hutterian Brethren. The Brethren, a Christian group founded in the 20th century who live on communal farms, are objecting to a 2003 Alberta law that requires photographs on all drivers' licences, arguing that making images is a sin. The EFC says the case could determine the "definition of religious freedom rights for groups (congregations, denominations, etc.) in Canada." The Canadian Civil Liberties Association and the Ontario Human Rights Commission have also been allowed to intervene in the case.
