Christian groups respond to federal budget

Comments

I have always been puzzled by Jesus' statement: "The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me." [Matthew 26:11] In recent years I have come to realize what He meant with absolute clarity: when His ministry on earth ended, the so-called churches which claimed His name would become rich and powerful; money-centric and uncaring, and the poor would remain poor until the end of time.

The time has come to end charitable status for churches; surprise, surprise the Jehovah's Witnesses predicted it would come to pass a long time ago and Canada Revenue Agency is probably already working on it!

Merriam Webster, defines charity as follows: generosity and helpfulness especially toward the needy or suffering; also aid given to those in need, or an institution engaged in relief of the poor and public provision for the relief of the needy. If this is what the megachurches are doing I for one would like to see the financials

Egan, your cynical comments do you no service.
If you look at who is caring for the poor you'll find Christians everywhere you look. Helping the poor works best on an individual basis, and the fact that churches are not necessarily spending all of their program money there doesn't reflect the fact that they encourage Christians to get involved everywhere they go.
