Vancouver Anglicans go to court

Comments

Hold on - for hundreds of years, Anglican priests have been preaching "The Church is people, not buildings." They've made this argument (and rightfully so) to spur us to liberal (and Godly) action to help the poor, clothe the naken, pity the afflicted and comfort the dying. And we've answered, because the Body of Christ - the Holy Church - is a body of believers. So the Parish IS the people. And so if the people may leave, and the parish is the people, not the buildings, then the parish MAY leave. The question remains - does the parish own the building? I fail to see what DNW would do with an essentially abandoned building? Why not do the Christian thing and settle this over a loaf of bread and a bottle of wine? Sending this to the lawyers is the LAST thing anyone should do.

Thank you, Todd, for a refreshing--and perhaps even godly--point of view.

Todd is right the mark, especially as the parish hasn't done anything different, and is simply trying to stay consistent with the approved theology of the recognized instruments of unity that the Mr. Cadman refers to.

Really brethren, let it all go, persevere in the beauty and highly treasured Gospel and in the person of our Lord Jesus.
Who cares about buildings, about "winning this worldly fight"
You have made the point about "Truth" let all goods go. Look up unto Jesus the author and prefecter of our faith who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
It 's not about denominations, it's about the Glory of the Majesty on high.

Do not shame him by earthly disputes. With all my love in Christ.

The Spirit and the gifts are ours through Him Who with us sideth:
Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also;
The body they may kill: God’s truth abideth still,
His kingdom is forever.

Theology to one side, please examine the modus operandi of Primate Fred Hiltz and his Anglican Church.

Todd is absolutely correct in his suggestion; however, Hiltz, et al are not going to walk away from real estate valued in tens of millions of dollars. Not a chance!

They forget that Jesus told us very plainly in Matthew 6:24 [New International Version]: "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money."

Todd asks, "Why not do the Christian thing and settle this over a loaf of bread and a bottle of wine?"

The answer, Todd: from what little I know of the situation, the bishop of the diocese is unlikely to be a Christian! Treat him like an unbeliever.

And as far as buildings go - sure St John's and other churches might abandon their buildings, but that would mean that vital ministries for God's kingdom were disrupted. So it's worth fighting for! Not to mention the lack of justice by the wolves in sheep's clothing - colored purple of course - and a mitre. And it would just give the diocese extra resources (they'd probably sell off the parishes they take over if they can't be filled) to prosecute their war against orthodox Anglican Christianity.

Even so - Come Lord Jesus!

Some sing these words, some tremble at the thought. The AcNA has this to look forward to. a win-win situation. Praise God!

One quibble with the article. The diocese claims that the priests in question relinquished their orders. They did not. They only relinquished their licenses to officiate in the diocese of New Westminster. They were, are and remain in holy orders within the Anglican Church, despite the diocese's claim to the contrary.
