Anglican-Catholic announcement gets mixed reaction in Canada

Comments

Fred Hiltz is well aware of the financial crisis within the ACC and beyond; after all he has been axing jobs at the General Synod and closing down non profitable churches for some time now despite aging congregations wishes. In tandem, Fred likes to make fancy speeches blaming the government and anyone else he can peg shots at for his churches misfortunes.

Benedict XVI who has recently proved that he learned the lessons well while a member of the Hitler Youth and the Wermacht: it is unnecessary to ‘defeat’ the 'enemy' and much easier to simply ‘annex’ them.

The Benedict Plan is established as an Apostolic Constitution which in this case is a fancy Roman name for a licence to proselytise right wing Anglicans [priests and laity] who cannot live with Hiltz, Jefferts-Schori and others grand new vision of North American Anglicanism. Of course, Taffy Williams, who abandoned all his gay and lesbian friends when he arrived at Lambeth Palace, is taking some serious hits as well: interest in Der Panzer Popes new Anglican Korps was at half a million or so Church of Englanders by end of the week following the putsch. In tandem, the papal panzers are laying siege to Anglicanism world-wide. Both churches have lost millions of adherents with parallel drops in revenue. Benedict’s crusade is timely, the bottom line is bleeding red ink and weak, vacillating Anglican leadership has destabilized the opposition and, if nothing else, this pope recognizes an exposed and vulnerable jugular when he sees one.

Hypocrisy? Of course, but there is that a-plenty in both megachurches. Will, Benedict’s plan be the death knell of the Anglican Communion? No, those bells are already ringing for both combatants. However, the Anglicans will lose a substantial number of adherents. My guess is that they will not lose too many priests for the simple reason that the salaries and benefits are very much less generous for the Roman Catholic priesthood.

In Christ,

I think that Reverend Malachy is correct.

Proselytizing adherents from other denominations was always a serious no-no!

However, in my lengthy experience with Lutheran, RC and Anglican churches they were always the first to cry 'foul' if another pastor offered a kind word or two to one of their adherrents.

It's all about the money and nothing to do with the Holy Spirit!

To refer to the Rowan Williams as "Taffy" is a perjorative and offensive reference to his being Welsh. Why his racism of this kind still regarded as acceptable - particularly from a Christian, in a Christian forum? Shame on you Mr. Malachy, and on you, CC.com, for allowing it.

Deborah Gyapong is a gifted writer, well worth reading. Unfortunately she completely ommitted any reference to the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) to which the Anglican Network in Canada, the Anglican Coalition in Canada and the Reformed Episcopal Church in Canada all belong as founding members. The ACNA represents over 740 congregations with an average Sunday attendance of around 100,000.

We value our RC brothers and sisters. Rather than joining the Roman Church, the ACNA is focusing on renewing the Anglican Communion worldwide, with the aid of the Global South Anglican Primates. To read the official ACNA response to the Vatican, click on http://bit.ly/dZvV7

Dear Ms Kishimoto:

I think that you are being a bit thin skinned. As a Brythonic Celt likely married to a Japanese you have surely heard worse: I know that I have [as a Gaelic Celt married to a Chinese]. However, please accept my contrite and humble apologies for any misrepresentation of my Lord of Canterbury.

Dear Rev. Ed: thanks for the link: here's another one that broadens the position somewhat. http://blogs.reuters.com/faithworld/2009/10/24/vatican-anglican-where-in-the-details-will-the-devil-be-hiding/
So far, and properly so, those dirctly involved have tried hard to see the positive, while those of us outside the megachurches have commented more freely.
Obviously, many of us consider ourselves to be 'catholic' the defing point is communion with Rome.

It seems to this former Baptist convert to Catholic Christianity the Anglican/Episcopal church which is in internal schism & running scared, and the secular reationary liberal segment of the church knows it is dead, it is the revisionist liberal anglicans that are the most ugly and vitriolic of the announcement by The Patriarch of the West Pope Benedict 16th to accomodate millions of Anglicans returning to the Catholic faith. Millions will take advantage of the popes offer and that is the vomitous fear of the politically correct liberal revisionists in the Worldwide Anglican communion. I also see an anglican rite coming into existence in the future using The Book of Common Prayer or a revival of the ancient English SARUM Divine Liturgy. Already Catholicism is the major faith in the United Kingdom. Guess horny henry 8th's anglican schism took 600 yrs to disintegrate.

Actually, Johannim, it was frigid Liz the 'virgin' queen who actually broke with Rome.

Henry, her papa, was too busy being er, "horny".
