Liberals continue Afghan debate despite prorogue

I'm failing to see how this article has anything to do with Christianity in Canada.

For years, I have faithfully read canadianchristianity.com and affiliated papers to get news about topics related to Christianity. If this site simply becomes a platform for Conservative party views, I suppose I'll have to find my reading elsewhere.

I would like to come to Deborah Gyapong's defence, if I may.

Deborah is an experienced journalist, having worked in secular media for many years, before joining Canadian Catholic News. As it happens, she has a desk close to mine in the parliamentary press gallery. We joke, sometimes, that I work the Protestant side of the street, and she covers off on the Catholic side.

I would suggest that her piece, above, is both very well balanced and relevantly Christian.

If anything, the fact that "Liberal" is in the headline might lead one to think that the story tipped in favor of the opposition on this. I would encourage readers to read all the way down, so as to see the various faith and political perspectives in context.

One thing to be said about the emerging outcomes of Haiti quake, is that it has dampened down some of the political hatemongering that has been going on in Canada, and caused people to focus more on ways in which we can work together to assist a nation in distress.

Josh, you have been right to be a faithful reader of canadianchristianity.com. I would encourage you to keep doing so. As you read the Haiti coverage, I would predict that you will be exposed to some excellent stories about God's grace in action.

It is worth noting that Tom Flanagan, a Conservative and former campaign manager to Stephen Harper, has also publically indicated that the real reason Mr. Harper shut down Parliament was to avoid discussion of the Afghan detainees.

It is not reserved to being a "Liberal" idea. Honest Conservatives are able to admit it as well.

Thanks for the reply, Lloyd. I'll keep this in mind, and while I am still not convinced that the article is particularly balanced, I'll continue to read canadianchristianity.com, a fine site and news source.

I think I have to agree. The article seems to wear its political preference on its sleeve! Come on guys- let's try and keep it biblical, not political.
