A new partnership
A new partnership

With this issue of Options, it is my pleasure to announce a new partnership between Christian Info Society (CIS) and canadafire.

CIS has published Options – and distributed it across Canada – for more than 10 years, as a means of promoting Christian higher education.

As a Canadian Christian media organization, our national print media (Options and In The World) and website (canadianchristianity.com) link and unite the Christian community.

Our new partner, canadafire, has a long history with Christian Info Society. Darian Kovacs initiated the work – it might almost be considered a movement – while still a high school student. He credits a front page story in our monthly BC Christian News with helping canadafire get off the ground.

Darian, still in his mid-20s, loves working with students every day; and he has also developed an amazing network of contacts with young people and youth leaders across Canada.

Among the most strategic and impressive of his accomplishments – not alone, as he would be quick to point out – is the ground-breaking annual Canadian Youth Workers Conference.

The first one, involving more than 900 youth workers from a very wide range of denominations and from right across Canada, took place in Vancouver late last year.

Together, Christian Info Society and canadafire will offer a wider range of coverage in Options, communicating with youth and young adults.

While retaining a strong focus on education, we are also offering articles from a variety of contributors – students, youth leaders, and young men and women from across the nation. Topics include adventure/ missions, life choices, social justice, music, movies and more.

This partnership is a win-win situation. Darian and his team will help us get Options into the hands of more youth, and we offer a great vehicle for communicating with young people.

As Darian puts it, Options “is morphing into Canada’s top magazine for  16 – 30 year olds interested in issues of faith, culture and life.”

We are particularly pleased to welcome Christina Crook as associate editor of Options. She has worked with both canadafire and CIS in the past, and was the natural choice to collaborate with us as we expand the scope of the publication.

Her initial thoughts for you, our readers: “This is a season of your life filled with options – school, career, ministry . . . We are working to create a magazine that inspires, challenges and equips you for a life of faith and service in today’s culture.”

Every year, we partner with Christian College & University Fairs in the Fall issue of Options. We create a magazine for them, which they distribute on their national tour – and which is also included with the full run of Options. We look forward to doing that again this year.

For the first time, this year, the Winter issue of Options will include the handbook for the Canadian Youth Workers Conference, sponsored annually by canadafire and Youth Specialties. This year, the event will be held in Toronto December 4 – 7.

We invite you to participate in this partnership. Please send your ideas, articles or suggestions to: options@canadianchristianity.com.

We’d love to hear from you!
