Rocking the Junos
Rocking the Junos

VANCOUVER’S Coastal Church hosted Junofest, a showcase of Christian music including  Juno Award nominees in the ‘Gospel’ category. Sarah Shandl, who attends Coastal, had the idea – and was instrumental in gathering artists and sponsors alike to the pre-Juno event.

Starfield performed an unplugged set; Laurell and Greg Sczebel also were on hand to perform.

Christian Info Society sponsored the event, along with World Vision, Praise 106.5 and Coastal Church.

According to Shandl, all other categories have historically had a pre-Juno party – except  those nominated to the Gospel category.

She is hoping future Juno events will include a similar ‘Gospel Showcase.’  The very positive response to this event prompted her to encourage other believers to consider staging their own  JunoFest. “If a church, or any individual, want to get on board, they can do it.”

Shandl herself will be busy during May and June, working with Laurell at various gigs. The 2010 Junos will take place in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
