. . . on the journey into music
“It started in university. I had this class
project to complete for a journalism class and I was interested in
exploring the music industry. My friend and I heard Chantal Kreviazuk was
signing at a local Future Shop so we head down to see if she’d talk
to us. When we got our turn to get her signature I told her about my
project and asked if I could interview her. She said yes! And before I knew
it I was sitting side-stage at Chantal’s concert that night, chatting
with Sam Roberts, and I thought to myself, I want to do this for the rest
of my life.”
on faith for the next step
I guess that first experience at the show made me
realize things weren’t that far off. Music is real people creating,
doing their thing. It’s their job and I realized I could be a part of
it. The next step was writing a final paper for school on how to break into
the music industry. I basically went around interviewing musicians and
labels around the city. It was through that I landed an internship with
Sony/BMG that lasted close to three years.

on creation vs consumption
With music, as with all things, we are called to be
creators. In the case of Christian music, it shouldn’t be about
taking what the world has and making it safe. We are called to create. My
faith in Jesus is a huge part of who I am and I believe that comes out in
the way that I live. This is especially true when I am out on the road with
artists. It’s the same for artists as for all of us: We need to be
authentic. Who you are is going to come through, no matter what you do.
