“I want people to know that we are a Christian
band. We are proud of who we are.” Rob
Beckley, Pillar
Pillar: For the Love of the Game
Pillar’s fifth studio album releases February
26, and the buzz is well underway. During the 2007 World Series, the title
track was prominently featured during ESPN’s Baseball Tonight.
Pillar is particularly proud of ‘Turn it
Up.’ “Every lyric in that song,” says vocalist Rob
Beckley, “is an album title or song title from another Christian
band, with the exception of two lines. All in all, there are 34 bands
represented . . . whose songs have influenced us.”
Before his involvement with Pillar, he notes, “I
didn’t know the Christian music world existed. Over the last year,
I’ve fully come to understand just how well the Christian music world
is established. In today’s music market, Christian bands are starting
to set musical standards. Bands like Underoath, for example, are really
making a huge impact on the music scene, and that is really cool to me. I
want people to know that we are a Christian band. We are proud of who we
are.”
Kevin Max: The Blood
This very personal project allows Max to step back
from his usual rock stylings, in favour of an exploration of gospel music.
The CD features high profile collaborations with an extraordinary cast,
including Vince Gill and Amy Grant, American Idol finalist Chris Sligh,
Joanne Cash, Ashley Cleveland and others – including the
long-anticipated reunion of dc Talk members.
Jon Foreman: Fall & Winter
Millions have heard Foreman as frontman of Switchfoot.
He returns to his indie-scene roots by releasing four solo EPs –
named after the four seasons – prior to the next Switchfoot release.
These EPs feature some of his most personal songs to date, with innovative
arrangements and inspired, intimate production. This January release
features the first two EPs.
Newworldson: Salvation
This Canadian folk band consists of singer-songwriter
Joel Parisien, drummer Mark Rogers, bassist Rich Moore and guitarist/vocalist
Josh Toal. Hailing from the Niagara region, the band won the 2007 Covenant
Awards for New Artist of the Year and Best Folk/Roots Album. This CD, their
debut international release, seamlessly weaves soul, funk, reggae and
gospel into a unique tapestry.

The Afters: Never Going Back to OK
After receiving the Dove award for New Artist of the
Year, The Afters prove the ‘sophomore slump’ is a myth. Their
second CD is an ingeniously crafted commercial record which will make
people stand up and pay attention. From the up-tempo, infectious
encouragement of the title track to the raw, contemplative honesty of
‘One Moment Away,’ this album delivers the goods.
Stellar Kart: Expect the Impossible
This group’s third studio album was produced by
Ian Eskelin (Krystal Meyers, All Star United), who also co-wrote eight of
the 11 tracks with lead singer Adam Agee. The CD is more sonically diverse
than the band’s previous projects, intended to connect with a wider
audience. Fresh off their ‘Punk the Halls’ tour, the group is
releasing this album’s debut single, ‘Jesus Loves You.’
They will also continue as headlining artists at Acquire the Fire events
nationwide.
Leeland: Opposite Way
This band’s sophomore album was produced by Matt
Bronleewe (Michael W. Smith, Natalie Imbruglia), mixed by Ben Grosse (Ben
Folds, Red Hot Chili Peppers) and recorded in Nashville. “I’ve
never seen a band with as much raw energy and God-given talent,” says
Bronleewe, adding that Leeland “is the kind of band you dream about
working with. The guys are innocently passionate about their message, and
intensely persuasive in their delivery. In every sense, their new album . .
. is the direction music needs to be going in.”
Shawn McDonald: Roots
Over the past two years, McDonald has released a CD,
recorded a live album, got married, headlined two tours, become a father
and wrote/recorded this third studio album. Produced by Christopher Stevens
(tobyMac), Roots contains
songs which point us back to scripture. They help us to find clarity in our
lives, and return to what’s most important – the roots of our
faith. The singer’s bluesy soul, along with his upbeat, energetic
songs will satisfy long-time fans and garner new ones.
Sanctus Real: Turn On the Lights
Over the past six years, Sanctus Real has grown into a
leading voice in the new generation of Christian rock. After a recent tour
with Steven Curtis Chapman, their fourth album is set to release. It
sounds like it could be their best collection yet – featuring
explosive rock songs packed with infectious choruses and soul-stirring
lyrics.
