Arends and faith
On April 11, Carolyn Arends (pictured), a household
name in contemporary Christian music, will be at Central Baptist Church, in
what church leaders describe as a musical exploration of faith and doubt.
Notes pastor David Dawson, “we are not asking Carolyn to come in and
entertain us. We are asking her to come share her stories and music and
create an atmosphere of spiritual exploration. The church is encouraging
members to invite guests, as a means to introduce them to spiritual
concepts. Having recently studied material entitled ‘Just Walk Across
the Room,’ many people are looking forward to trying to put what they
have learned into practice,” Dawson adds. Tickets and price
information from Victoria Christian Book and Music, or at the McPherson Box
Office and the usual outlets. Charge by phone at 250.386.6121 or toll free
1.888.717.6121, or at www.rmts.bc.ca.
Cridge benefit
Just a few days before the Arends concert, there will
be star-studded benefit in aid of The Cridge Centre for the Family,
featuring several favourite Victoria musicians. That benefit will also be
at Central Baptist, on Tuesday, April 8. While the concert is free, a
collection will be taken. The new Cridge communication and funding
development manager, Greg Hatton, notes that the Centre’s purpose
statement is to manifest the love of Jesus Christ by rendering aid and
service to children, adults and families, to maximize their opportunities.
The musicians performing at the event include soprano Sakira Sloan,
violinist Timothy Chooi, pianist Carolyn Tsao, lyric soprano Melody Taves
– plus baritone and soprano soloists Bob and Arlene Overman.

Comox summit
March 12 was a special day for Bay Community Church in
Comox, a Congregational Christian church. The CCC national pastor, David
Schrader, spent the day with the congregation at an Evangelism Summit,
leading them through a Reaching our Neighbours Gathering. The idea was to
prepare the church for what its website describes as our next steps, of
sharing the single greatest gift with our community.
Searching
The Neighbourhood Church, a Mennonite Brethren
congregation in Nanaimo, has a search on for a congregational care pastor.
The church, which has two Sunday morning services and a staff of six, is
looking for someone who could help the congregation be even more
intentional in making the church a welcoming place. The aim is to
have visitors not only paying return visits, but also becoming active
co-workers with church members in the kingdom of God. Senior minister is
James Toews. The staffing committee chair is Rob Simpson. Info at http:
