Heritage site
Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Summerland is an
official Heritage site, having served four denominations and a lodge since
it was built as a Baptist church in 1911. The denominations were Baptist,
Methodist, United and, now, Presbyterian. For several years, before being
sold to the Presbyterian Church in Canada in 1991, it was a Masonic lodge
meeting place. The late William Perry, at the time the minister of St.
Andrew’s Presbyterian in Penticton, spearheaded the development of
the new congregation in 1991.
James Statham, the first full time minister, arrived in
2004. He previously served congregations in Duncan and Ottawa.
Part of the heritage significance of the church is a
Lye pipe organ, which was moved from Trinity United Church in Port Arthur
(now Thunder Bay) in 1929. Info at 250.494.3291.
Anniversary lunch
A potluck lunch last November 4 at the church marked
the fourth anniversary at All Saints Lutheran in Kelowna. The young
congregation is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada.
As it happens, that particular date is All Saints
Sunday in the liturgical calendar followed by many Christian denominations.

Prayer for Chile mission
The Potter’s House Community Church, a Southern
Baptist congregation in Westbank, is presently listing for prayer on its
website (www.tphcc.com), Ken and Cathy Yinger of Chile, South America, to
whom the church supplies support.
The citation notes that Ken has been serving as the
team leader of the Andean River Valleys denominational missionary team.
Cathy works with him and Chilean Baptists using a
variety of methods (such as community development, working with parents in
schools, cooperating with rural health clinics) to begin “healthy
reproducing churches” in the area’s many rural mountain valley
villages. – LM
Fighting the crystal meth plague
This dramatic image is part of the campaign being
conducted by the recently formed Central Okanagan Crystal Meth Task Force.
It is from the group’s website, crystalmethtaskforce.ca, which is an
initiative by the Living Positive Resource Centre (Nazarene@uniserve.com) and the City of Kelowna. In an effort to inform the
public about Crystal Meth and its harmful effects, the ultimate intent is
to reduce the level of use of this toxic substance, especially among the
youth in Kelowna, according to the All Saints’ Lutheran Church
website (allsaintslutheranchurch.com). All Saints’ pastor,
Tyler Gingrich is a part of the task force. – LM
