DOC LOOMIS is a Canon Missioner overseen by the
Anglican Mission in the Americas. He was recently in B.C, speaking to
pastors’ groups in Metro Vancouver.
After being a pastor for some time, he became an
Anglican priest in 2003 – ordained by the Province of the
Anglican Church of Rwanda. He has become a roving minister to theologically
conservative Anglicans.
Loomis has had success as a church planter, and as a
coach for planters. His leadership of various ministries has given him a
compelling vision for unification of the whole church.
“I work with not just Anglicans, but with groups
all over the U.S. and Canada,” he told BCCN. “From a place of weakness, we humbled Anglicans
are calling out to the wider church, to those in mainline denominations who
are a remnant.”
Loomis stressed two emerging issues. Firstly,
persecution of Christians.
“I believe that there is a growing secularism,
that will make it harder to be a Christian. But persecution always precedes revival.
Remnants are forming and connecting across the church. I live to call them
together.”
He is convinced that a spiritual harvest is picking up
momentum. “Fish are just under the surface, and we will need all
hands on the net. It matters not what colour the boat is. There isn’t
one boat, but many. It’s not about the boats, but the fish!”
