Cool Waters
There’s a new coffee house in Victoria, in the Fellowship Hall in Church of our Lord
(COOL). While it is not directly affiliated with the church, the congregation’s popular acronym helps in the branding process. A cover charge of $2 will help
pay the hall rental. The first two events are January 16 and 30. Organizers
note: “It has long been the desire of many listeners and musicians . . . to fellowship
and perform in a nondenominational Christian music atmosphere.” Feature performances will occupy the first half of each evening, followed by an
open stage. There will be guidelines for musicians. Info: 250.727.1038.
New in Cobble Hill
After several years in the planning and building stages, the Cobble Hill Baptist
Church (CHBC) congregation moved into its new facilities at 3791 Cobble Hill
Road December 6. Earlier in the decade, the church had acquired 13 acres which
had previously been the site of Evergreen School. Started in 1947 as a Sunday
school, in what was then largely a farming community, CHBC has grown
substantially in recent years – with the development of Cobble Hill as a commuter community for both Victoria
and Duncan. Polish-born, and with a doctorate from Gordon-Conwell Seminary,
Lech Bekesza has pastored the church since 1994. Design drawings of the new
church are at cobblehillbaptist.bc.ca.
Taize service
A ‘Prayer in the Style of Taize’ service is being offered periodically by members of the Downtown Churches
Association in Victoria. The next will be January 20 at Grace Lutheran Church,
at 1273 Fort Street, across from Central Middle School. The service features a
quiet, music-filled, candlelit, meditative approach to worship. The monthly
Taize schedule is available from Janet Gray at 250.478.5066.
Moms and Tots
Moms and Tots are the order of the morning each Thursday, 9:30 – 11:30 in the Fellowship Hall at Comox Pentecostal Church. The church is located
at 1919 Guthrie Road. Childcare is available at reasonable rates. Info:
250.338.9818.

Vote results coming
Friends of Wynn Toronitz, a Deep Cove Elementary School grade five student, have
been trying to make his essay a winner by voting online. Voting closed December
24. Wynn was chosen one of 24 finalists out of 2,000 entries, for his essay
about the true meaning of home. If he has received enough votes, the ultimate
award will be a $60,000 contribution to build a new Habitat for Humanity home
for a deserving family. By the time this appears in print, there should be word
on whether he won. Info: meaningofhome.ca.
Parksville, it is!
In the December Roundup, a story about Pies Plus – a project to raise funds for the BC Mission Boat Society – contained a few glitches. The church featuring the pie sale was Our Saviour
Lutheran in Parksville – not nearby Qualicum. The church website is oursaviourlutheranchurch.ca. The web
address listed left out a letter, and ended up directing people to an Ontario
church with a similar name. Our apologies. – LM
