Seeking a pastor
Campbell River Baptist Church, a long-established congregation in that upper
Island community, is looking for a full-time worship pastor. Among the tasks
would be to co-ordinate a fair-size group of volunteers in both the worship and
audio-visual aspects of the ministry. On the music side, the successful
candidate would hopefully have strong vocals as well competency on a musical
instrument, such as piano or guitar. Contact: crbaptist.bc.ca.
Moms and tots
Yummie Mummies is the name of the event, and it takes place each Thursday at
9:15 am at the Gold River campus of Northgate Foursquare Church, a multi-site
congregation with locations in Comox, Campbell River, Gold River and Powell
River. This moms and tots event runs for almost three hours every week. The
Gold River campus is at Village Square Mall, 375 Nimpkish Drive. Contact:
250.283.7120.
Moving for God
Christian Fellowship Centre is a non-denominational charismatic church in
Qualicum. One of its unique ministries is the dance team, developed in
conjunction with the church-based Elevation Dance Studio. While much of the
training and experience is in the worship/dance area, participants can also
choose classes in ballet, tap, modern lyrical and hip hop. Classes are
available for various age groups. Teacher Rena Weme handles queries from people
interested in the program, and wanting to find out how it integrates into the
life of the church. She notes that her vision is to see dance and the arts used
to glorify God in the church and in the community. Contact: cfcchurch.com.

Onward and upgrade
The 2010-2011 fund-raising drive at Pacific Christian School is now well
underway, and has a goal of $30,000. The school, with over 1,000 students from
500 families, is located adjacent to the Victoria Christian Reformed Church,
visible from Highway 17, just north of McKenzie Avenue. The fund-raising
brochure, available for viewing or printout at pacificchristian.ca, notes that
the money raised this school year will go to painting and technological
upgrades in the secondary school, smart boards for the elementary school and
eco-friendly/powersmart upgrades. The funding drive helps take off the pressure
for increasing tuition to cover costs.
Christmas not over
Now that the New Year is here, the folk at Saanich Community Church would like
to remind us that Christmas is not quite over yet. On the first Sunday of
Epiphany in the church calendar, on January 9, the 11 am service will include a
children’s Epiphany drama, carols and readings. Saanich Community Church is a
congregation affiliated with the Mennonite Brethren, and is located at 4677
West Saanich Road in the Royal Oak area.
Aid and service
The stated purpose of the Cridge Centre for the Family is “to manifest the love of Jesus Christ by rendering aid and service to children,
adults and families, to maximize their opportunities.” One of the lesser known activities of the centre is the brain injury services
department. The department has been providing services for 20 years. They include housing
options, networks of support, and work enclaves. A clubhouse project is
presently heading toward implementation. Begun originally in 1873 as the BC
Protestant Orphan’s Home, the centre has developed comprehensive and wide-ranging family services,
of which the brain injuries department is just one.
