AS the Juno Awards come around again this year,
Christian musicians have their place – but not their party.
According to White Tide Entertainment’s Sharah
Shandl, “The Contemporary Gospel category is the only one that does
not have any type of celebration” for nominees.
Shandl, who is very involved with the promotion of
Christian artists, wanted to do something about this omission. The result
is an evening with Starfield, Greg Sczebel and Laurell, at downtown
Vancouver’s Coastal Church March 27.
“They will play unplugged, with a more intimate
feel,” she said.
Shandl has also involved World Vision, whose child
sponsorship will be promoted by the artists. Other Christians have also
responded well to the proposed event.
“I attend Coastal Church. They were very excited
about doing this. My pastor, Dave Koop, has been supportive
throughout.”
Tickets are $12 at the door; they’re also
available from Christian retail outlets, as well as Coastal. The venue
holds 800 – and Shandl hopes it will be full.
