Taking Down the Goliaths is the title of a World Vision (WV) initiative taking place at various locations across Canada this month.

The theme for the event, which begins in B.C., is ‘Releasing the Church for Christian Advocacy.’

World Vision staffers Doug Blackburn and Amboka Wameyo will teach participants “how to mobilize your church for advocacy and release your church’s potential to be a force for justice in the world.”

The G8 Summit, they note, “is bringing world leaders to our own backyard in 2010. The Canadian church has a unique opportunity to speak to the priorities of God.”

The event will cover the following: “the biblical foundations for Christian advocacy; tools to build a culture of justice in your congregation; [and] the key issues being addressed at this year’s G8.” Participants will be given practical ideas, and details of ongoing justice campaigns.

Goliaths is scheduled April 6 at the Best Western Coquitlam Inn in Coquitlam. Other  events are scheduled for Calgary, Regina, Winnipeg, Montreal, Halifax and Toronto.
