See 'Sowing & Reaping' | The Vancouver furniture store Sofa So Good is running a sale called ‘Sectional and the City.’
For every sectional purchased by April 18, the store will donate $50 to
HomeStart Foundation, a non-profit Christian group which helps people
re-establish a home by giving them furnishings. When customers buy from Sofa So
Good, the store encourages them to donate their old furniture to HomeStart.
Last year, HomeStart helped furnish homes for more than 800 people.
Science & faith
The 2010 pastors’ conference May 4 – 7 at Regent College is on ‘Wonder and Devotion: Bringing Science and Faith Together for the Church.’
Conflict over the science of origins has led many pastors to avoid engaging
science in their ministries – with two serious consequences.
First, many young people flounder and lose their faith, or abandon careers in
science. Second, Christians have been robbed of one of the “two books” by which God has revealed himself and lost “the sense of wonder and worship” that can come from studying God’s creation.
Speakers include Alan Torrance, Denis Alexander, Iain Provan, Ross Hastings and
Darrell Johnson.
Do Hugh believe
Hugh Ross from Reasons to Believe will be having a dialogue with Dr. Rob
Tarzwell on Friday, April 16 at the University of British Columbia on the topic ‘Putting God to the test: Christians and atheists have a go.’
Ross will also be speaking twice at Tenth Avenue Church in Vancouver April 17
and twice at Fraserlands Church in Vancouver April 18. For information:

Sowing & reaping
The urban food project has successfully wrapped up. In summer and fall 2009,
Robert Lockridge, Rudi Krause and Ryan Weemhoff collected thousands of pounds
of food from three plots of land they tended in east Vancouver; from gleaning
from the A Rocha field centre in Surrey; and from many fruit trees and berry
bushes around Vancouver.
The food was then distributed to 40 people in nine biweekly lots during the 18
weeks from Advent to Easter. Those receiving the shares made a voluntary
contribution.
The project was an exercise in community, conservation of the earth, simple
living and dependence on God.
The project was completed with a little help from their friends at Grandview
Calvary Baptist Church, Regent College, A Rocha and St. Mary’s Anglican Church.
More from Beth
A Beth Moore teaching conference will be delivered via live satellite feed 9 am
to 3 pm April 24 at Fraser Lands Church, 3330 SE Marine Drive in Vancouver.
Based on the theme ‘So Long, Insecurity,’ Moore will present the common sources of female insecurity (the unattainable
perfection of media images, dependence on a man’s love as ultimate validation, and success that is defined by money, power and
status), as well as their cures.

The anniversary will take place at the club’s usual meeting time and place, 7:30 – 9:30 pm Monday at Zion Lutheran Church. All past members and guests are welcome.
The club is a member of Toastmasters International but is unique in that, while
anyone can participate, most of those who do are Christians. The club’s mission statement is: “Building better communicators, speakers and leaders for the Lord.”
