A KEY Bible character comes to life in Come With the Wind: Nicodemus Tells His Story, a new biographical novel by retired Kelowna pastor, Major Donald V. Goodridge.
This is the second book for Goodridge, who has served for more than 40 years in front-line ministry in The Salvation Army.
The inspiration for the book, he said, “was assuredly the prompting of the Holy Spirit – who brought to my mind the title . . . as a result of my daily devotional time, and my scripture journaling exercise that follows my prayer time.”
A summary of the book reads: “His life was on the line, but he knew he had to do it! Nicodemus tells the story in the first person, of his visit with Jesus – that led him through the malaise of corrupt religion, and the most diabolical plot against the innocent ever recorded.”
The foreword by Salvation Army General Bramwell Tillsley notes that the book “explains not only what is recorded in John’s Gospel, but also what is left out. The author possesses the rare gift of ‘sanctified imagination.’ Certainly you will be guided to new trends of thought, as you move through the novel.”

Goodridge, he adds, “has provided us with fresh inspiration as we contemplate not only God’s leading in the life of Nicodemus, but also God’s leading in our own lives as we are open to ‘the wind of the Spirit.’”
Goodridge’s first book was The Family of God – From Religion to Divine Relationship. It is an in-depth study of Paul’s Epistle to the Ephesians.
“I confess I was somewhat reluctant to write a second book, now cognizant of the voluminous work involved,” Goodridge told BCCN. “But God will win out every time, and I felt compelled to take up the challenge. I am ever so grateful that I was obedient to the leading of the Holy Spirit.”
Goodridge is donating 90 percent of the book’s net income from sales to The Salvation Army’s ‘A Sparkle of Hope’ campaign, to raise funds and awareness for the human trafficking concerns prevalent in Kelowna and the rest of the province.
Goodridge will be giving regular updates on the success of this project in relation to book sales on his new website, dongoodridge.com.
