Teach us to pray
Three gifted communicators will lead the National School of Intercession this
month.
Rob Parker is founding director of the National House of Prayer in Ottawa.
Raised in the Fernwood area of Victoria, his last role of ministry, prior to
the establishment of the House of Prayer, was as a pastor in Vernon. During
that time of ministry, on Canada Day 2000, Parker coordinated a prayer walk
covering the entire Trans-Canada Highway.
Sara Maynard is founder and director of Cityscape Prayer Ministries in
Vancouver. She has been leading intercession in Vancouver and the nation for
nearly 20 years.
Jane Jones is associate director of Cityscape, ministering out of the Calgary
area. She is also the director of Anglican Renewal Ministries.
The School consists of two components: evening sessions, which are open to the
general public at 7 pm – Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, June 4 – 6; and for registrants only, there are daytime sessions held June 5 and 6, 9:30 am – 4 pm. All sessions will take place at First Church of the Nazarene, 4277 Quadra
Street, Victoria.

Backyard impact
As Island churches prepare for various summer ministries – summer camps, day camps, Vacation Bible Schools and so on – the story told by one minister, on his church’s website, is apropos.
It recounts how Gary Nowrocki, pastor of the Nanaimo Church of the Nazarene,
came to faith in the summer after his second grade in school, in a Backyard
Bible Club.
Nowrocki’s narrative traces various parts of his pilgrimage, including the impact of his
father’s death from bone cancer when Gary was in his late teens. And it describes how
he met his wife, Lise, and came to realize that he was ‘called’ to pastoral ministry. The whole story can be found online at
nationalization.com. Just click on ‘Meet the Pastor.’
Men’s Getaway
The men in two congregations – Gateway Baptist and Church by the Lake (Elk Lake Baptist) – are preparing for a ‘Men’s Getaway’ at Capernwray, August 14 – 16.
Info at 250.658.5121.
The interest in doing their event on Thetis could relate to the fact that the
new lead pastor at Gateway, Dan Rutherford, did teaching stints at Capernwray
schools in Europe and New Zealand at various times, over the years. – Lloyd Mackey
