A health-conscious team in Kelowna is showing people how to make God the centre
of their fitness routine.
Two years ago, Mike Stratis, his wife Joanne, and brother Chris opened a workout
studio called No Compromise Fitness. Recently, the trio came up with two new
fitness program components for the studio.
‘The 40 Class Challenge’ starts off with a pre-screening posture and fitness exam by a team doctor, to
evaluate a person’s nervous system. Participants in the program take part in a special 30-minute
regimen, designed to maximize the effects of the workout by targeting a muscle
group in as little as three minutes.
The program also challenges individuals with weekly objectives that will put
them closer to their fitness goal. The 40 Class Challenge costs $450 (plus
GST), for 10 weeks.
The newest addition to the team’s health arsenal is based on the ideas of Dr. Ben Lerner, author of the
best-selling Body by God: the Owner’s Manual – a wellness book with the premise that we must take care of our physical bodies
by using the Bible as a manual. Lerner is a chiropractor who served as
physician for the U.S. wrestling teams in six World Team competitions and two
Olympiads.
“Our team are certified as Maximized Living Mentors” through Lerner’s Maximized Living Institute, said Mike Stratis.
“On top of running No Compromise Fitness, we also serve our community through a
six-week program called Rebuilding Your Temple by Dr. Ben Lerner.” The only cost is $20 for Lerner’s book.
This class helps participants to attain holistic improvements by setting out to
accomplish simple, feasible goals each day.
“In this program we work through a series of DVDs by Dr. Ben that relates
biblical principles to exercise, nutrition, peace management and time
management,” explained Mike.
“We work through a participant’s guidebook that gives small achievable action steps for all these areas each
week. The goal is to get one percent better each day for God and your family,
so by the end you will have gotten 40 percent better. It’s a transformation!”

Participant Doug Brown said he learned a lot from this program. “Joanne and Mike have a great approach to encouraging people at any level to
improve health in an incremental way, that becomes a no-brainer with a little
practice.
“I benefited by adding good, natural foods to my diet, which is helping me to be
at optimum weight and condition. I also have incorporated some resistance
exercise into my regime, and can quickly get my heart rate, through aerobics,
to the optimum FUR [fat utilization rate].”
Taking care of our bodies is a biblical concept that we must heed, said Stratis – quoting 1 Corinthians 6:19-20: “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you,
whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a
price. Therefore honour God with your body.”
Stratis concluded: “When we understand that the body is made by God and is his temple, it’s a lot easier to become not only motivated to take care of it short-term, but
inspired to take care of it long-term.
“Our bodies are the vehicles in which we carry out our God-given destinies; we
are his hands and feet, and the light to the world. We need to be ready.”
