Ministry has a Buddy
Buddy Greene (pictured) will be performing in Victoria next month, in honour of
Evangelism International. Greene’s concerts are described as “equal parts hymn sing, jam session [and] church house revival.”
With Mark Lowry, he co-authored the classic ‘Mary, Did You Know?, which has been recorded by artists ranging from Kathleen
Battle to Reba McEntire. Greene’s CDs include Rufus, Hymns & Prayer Songs, and 2009’s A Few More Years.
The latter was heavily influenced by the death of his father and his mother’s struggle with Alzheimer’s.
Music, Greene said, “has been a great gift to me during this time as I’ve recalled, discovered and uncovered songs that have helped carry the gospel to
my aching heart.”
The concert is a celebration of the ministry of Clayton and Isobel Dougan, who
have been based in Victoria since 1986. They offer a seminar called ‘Evangelism is Not a Fatal Disease.’ Clayton’s latest book is Why Do I"Need the Bible?
The concert is on July 29, at Lambrick Park Church. Call 1.800.663.6259.

Teen Challenge arrives
Teen Challenge (TC), known across North America for its Christian-based drug
rehabilitation programs, has purchased the former Sylvan Acres Ministries camp
on Cowichan Lake. Once owned by a consortium associated with Canadian Baptists
in Western Canada (CBWC), the 38-acre site is evaluated at close to $900,000.
The actual purchase price was not disclosed, but the sale was announced early
this spring.
The Lake Cowichan Gazette quoted TC camp director Adam Reynolds as saying the rehab program should be
fully functional by September. The program costs about $30,000 annually per
participant; some of it is funded by the participants themselves, through work
they do in the surrounding community.
The centre will be the fourth in B.C. Two operate in the Fraser Valley, and one
in the Okanagan. Info: bcteenchall.com.

Victoria for Haiti
Because of its long-time presence in Haiti, Mission Aviation Fellowship is the
recipient of a ‘Victoria for Haiti’ social media website launch. This was made possible through Don St. Germain, a
Victoria realtor and owner of VictoriaForHaiti.com, who said:"“I hope to make lots of new friends and create a meaningful way for people to
network. My goal is to raise $100,000 for Haiti, $25 at a time.”
He wants 4,000 members for the world’s first “social media kindness membership.”
Greg Hatton, Victoria-based MAF Western Canada advancement director, says the
organization is shifting from a disaster relief emphasis to long term
development in many nations, including Haiti. “We are honoured to be a part of this major campaign.”
Worship merger
A recent merger of worship ministries in Victoria will result in a combining of
two initiatives which were previously operating on different nights. Cool
Waters Coffee House and Revival Victoria are pooling their resources. Friday
nights at 7 pm is the new meeting time, at the COOL Hall, Church of our Lord,
626 Blanshard Street.
The event will offer family-friendly praise and worship, with several worship
teams involved. Refreshments will be served all evening. Info:

Oaklands interim
Daniel McDougall is now the interim pastor at Oaklands Chapel; it is one of
Victoria’s most venerable churches, approaching its centennial.
McDougall , whose work with UVic Campus Alpha and InterVarsity Christian
Fellowship is well known in Victoria, joins a pastoral and staff team including
associate pastor Clint McPhee and secretary Sally Crowder.
Thrift & health
Another reminder for Island Roundup readers, of a church that has both a Thrift Store and a parish nurse.
This time, it is Bethel Baptist Church in Duncan. The Thrift Shop is held every
Friday, 10 am – 2 pm in the church’s lower hall. The parish nurse is Anita McDonald.
Bethel has a community breakfast twice a month, also in the church basement. The
breakfasts are held each first and third Saturday. Info:
