INSPIRED by a faith seldom seen, Yani Lim, an
Indonesian-Canadian pastor, has coordinated ‘Voices Together!’
– calling Christians from all over Metro Vancouver and beyond to GM
Place on Canada Day, July 1, at 6 pm.
Although the meeting will be led by known church
leaders, Lim is adamant in not wanting advance mention of any
‘names’ – except that of Jesus. “Our vision is to
express prayer and praise, as we join hands with thousands of Christians
from different ethnic groups in and around Greater Vancouver and the Fraser
Valley – to raise our voices together, and lift high the name of
Jesus,” Lim says.
Her website lists three aims for the gathering:
“To celebrate and give thanks to God for our city and our nation; to
pray together for the future of our nation and the 2010 Olympics; and to
enlighten the community about their responsibility to help the
needy.”
Some months back, Lim approached the City of Vancouver.
City officials gave her a practical list of ideas regarding ways churches
can work together to benefit the poor.
Her first challenge, she felt, was to bring the
Christian community together.
“We have received encouragement from the response
of Christians – many from ethnic groups, such as 60 Korean pastors
who attended a prayer breakfast,” she said.
At press time, Voices Together was projected to draw
thousands, with 15,000 tickets distributed through churches and Christian
bookstores in Metro Vancouver.

The evening is scheduled to kick off with hundreds of
dancers in an opening celebration, led by a unified worship band from
several different churches. An 80-strong Korean children’s dance
group will perform.
Lim is especially excited about a unique choir, made up
of hundreds of former substance abuse addicts, called Voices of Freedom.
Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food
items for the foodbank.
