Get your hands dirty
A Rocha is described as “an international conservation organization working to show God’s love for all creation.”
The ministry’s Surrey Field Centre hosts volunteer days on the second Saturday of every
month. The next ones are July 11 and August 8.
Rain or shine, volunteers arrive at 10 am and help with various projects. There
is a tour of the Field Centre at 12:30, and a free lunch at 1 pm. Families and

Play hockey for Jesus
YWAM Hockey offers summer hockey camps that promote a passion for Jesus as well
as a passion for hockey. This year, four camps are being offered in B.C.:
• July 19 – 24: Prince George Day Camp. For boys and girls aged 8 – 15.
• July 26 – 31: Greater Vancouver Resident Camp at Walnut Grove Sportsplex in Langley; meals and accommodations at Trinity
Western University. For boys and girls aged 10 – 15. Run in partnership with Athletes in Action.
• August 9 – 14: Kelowna Day Camp at Jim Lind Arena. For boys and girls aged 8 – 15.
• August 16 – 21: Vancouver Island Resident Camp at Fuller Lake Arena, Chemainus; meals and
accommodations at Calvary Baptist Church. For boys and girls aged 10 – 17. This camp is run in partnership with Athletes in Action. There is currently

Play ball!
Union Gospel Mission sponsors its first ‘Little Sluggers Day at the Nat’ July 13.
A hundred kids from economically disadvantaged homes are given the privilege of
attending a Vancouver Canadians baseball game at Nat Bailey Stadium.
The kids get a tour of the stadium, meet players, get some autographs, learn
baseball skills, take in batting practice and get tickets for the evening’s game, along with complimentary food and a beverage.

Ride your bike
Chalice, a Canadian Catholic charity that supports community initiatives in the
developing world, is organizing a ‘Cycling for Children’ fundraising bicycle tour. The tour is a two-day event running from Agassiz to
Langley (and back), July 11 – 12. Funds raised go to build, repair and/or furnish schools in 15 developing

Learn musical theatre
The Lindbjerg Academy of Performing Arts teaches the art of musical theatre.
This year, it is offering two summer school programs:
• July 6 – 17: Intermediate/Advanced Master Class (for ages 11 – 18) on ‘The Music of Mama Mia,’ held at Burquest Jewish Community Centre.
• July 20 – 24: Beginner/Intermediate Class (for ages 6 – 11) on ‘Everybody Wants to be a . . .’ held at Burquest Jewish Community Centre.

While many churches offer a week or two of vacation Bible school, GNI Shining
Stars Youth Society is offering two full months of ‘summer adventures.’ The program runs daily from 9 – 4, July 6 to August 28 in Ward Memorial Baptist Church, Vancouver.
Instead of archery and swimming, campers aged 5 – 15 can tackle English as a second language, math, French, language arts,
science, Bible stories, music, drama, guitar lessons, computer projects and a
reading marathon.
