A HUMANITARIAN housing project that was destroyed by fire has literally risen
from the ashes.
Construction has begun again on a partially built duplex on Park Street,
sponsored by Habitat for Humanity Kamloops (HHK).
Framing is almost done, and soon the roof will be in place, according to HHK
board member Ziggy Morash.
“We’re so happy the project is back on track. Lock-up is expected by mid-July, when
the trade students from Thompson Rivers University (TRU) finish their course.”
Further, she noted: “The insurance adjustor was very sympathetic and is cooperating to see it
completed.”
Donations are once again up and running. As reported last month in BCCN, the TRU students have taken the project upon themselves – not only as their practicum, but as a service to the community.
Morash and the Habitat board are once again overwhelmed by the spirit of
community support.
There are indications that many would like Habitat to undertake a project each
year.
“There’s a suitable property measuring one and half acre near our present site, ideal
for a fourplex or two duplexes. But we don’t have the money to buy it,” said Morash.
HHK has already picked the two needy families for their present project.

According to police and the fire department, investigations into the May fire
are ongoing. Police suspect arson was the cause of the fire.
