IN addition to his work as CEO of the Manning Centre
for Building Democracy, Preston Manning is host of CBC Radio One’s This I Believe – a
forum for Canadians to present essays on their core convictions.
Last month, Manning weighed in with his own personal
statement on the beliefs which guide his day-to-day life. He cited the
importance of the scientific method; democratic values; and the potential
of Canada. He also shared his thoughts on relationships, which he termed
“ the most important thing in life – how we relate to
ourselves, to our physical environment, to our families, and to our fellow
human beings.”

Manning concluded on a spiritual note, declaring:
“I especially believe that it is my relationship with God, as the
ultimate source of being, that very much determines the strength, character
and meaning of all my other relationships.
“In my life, this belief in God is shaped by and
rooted in the life and teachings of Jesus. It leads me to commit time and
energy to such practices as prayer, the study of scripture, fellowship with
other believers and service to others.”
