Salvation Army Captain Dave Macpherson told BCCN he began praying two years
ago, when the city was dealing with a lot of vagrants.
“I went to prayer, and what came out was
‘Hope on Wheels’ – three guys on bikes that go out three
times a week, to scour the alleyways, bridges, bushes and parks.
“They go out with the sole purpose of building
relationship with the marginalized they find – show the love of
Christ to them, and pray with everyone they see. You know they have never
been refused!”

The ministry now has more than 200 names of homeless
people – twice the city’s estimate. Many of these people have
simply given up. Hope on Wheels carries extensive information about all the
resources available.
“In the last two years, they’ve led over 15
people to Christ, seen 14 get into housing, and 17 enter addiction
treatment. They have contacted businesses that used to complain to the
police about vagrancy. They now call us first!” – PB
