place severe restrictions on expressions of Christian faith at the Beijing
Olympics. However, in June, the Bible Society based in Swindon, U.K.,
confirmed that it has permission to print some 90,000 gospel

Assemblies of Canada in July. Wells served as a chaplain at the
Olympics in Athens (2004) and Turin (2006), and will be in Beijing
August 6 – 24.
BCCN spoke to Wells,

Christians in China – chaplaincy would be allowed in the
‘Olympic Village’ by the government officials.
“The Chinese organizers are caring for the
official in-Village chaplaincy with their own citizens, mostly seminary
students,” Wells stated.

He added: “Some experienced international persons
have been asked to be available as ‘on call’ chaplains; so I
