TWO local men are offering contrasting perspectives on the Holy Land in a pair
of upcoming films.
The Original Promise is an attempt to counter the negative images some associate with Israel.
Its website describes the film as a presentation of “the world-changing achievements made by the tiny country behind the big
headlines.”
The film was created by a Christian, B.C. broadcaster Doug Kooy; and project
developer Bill Iny, who is Jewish.
Kooy states: “My thoughts on Israel are simple: it is a miracle.”

With God on Our Side is the work of Kevin Miller, an Abbotsford writer who co-scripted Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed.
A key aspect of the film is a critical analysis of Christian Zionist support for
the government of Israel. Miller writes: “Certain Christians are approaching the people in the Middle East, claiming God
is on their side.”
The result, he contends, is that these well-meaning believers “unintentionally disregard human rights and [give] unilateral support to a
secular state.”
Miller’s film proposes “a better way, a way of justice, peace and love for Jews and Palestinians . . . That is the heart of
God.”
