CHINATOWN’S Night Market is a popular phenomenon – and was the venue for a unique gospel outreach last month.
Vancouver Chinese Alliance Church set up a booth for 12 nights, on the weekends
throughout August.
Amy Ka Ying Li, coordinator of the initiative, said church volunteers politely
engaged people in conversation, using questions such as “Why do we celebrate Christmas?”
“We would continue the conversation if they were interested in knowing more about
Christianity,” she told BCCN.
The effort was well received. “Many people did not know much about Christianity, or had never heard of the
gospel before, so they got the chance to know more.
“Some people wanted to attend a church, but did not feel comfortable to just walk
into one where they do not know anyone, so we acted as a bridge in inviting
them to our church.”
Li noted that BC Christian News was one of the materials offered to passersby. “Many people were receptive of the newspaper, and it ran out very quickly.” – DFD
