R.G. Mitchell closes
R.G. Mitchell (RGM), the largest Christian book
distributor in Canada, went into receivership September 15.
The company, based in Willowdale, Ontario, has stopped
distributing books to Christian bookstores. Its eight Christian bookstores
in Ontario have also closed.
In addition to bestselling books such as The Shack, RGM distributed
hundreds of movies, youth products, Bibles, children’s books,
Bible study materials, and more than two dozen different categories of
music.
At press time, the company’s website at rgm.ca
gave no indication of any financial problems or store closures. Rather, it
described the company as “the leading full service sales, marketing
and distribution wholesaler of Christian and inspirational products in
Canada.” However, another company site, mitchellfamilybooks.com, was
advertising a “store closing clearance” sale, “taking
place in all of our locations.”
CMC taken over
David C. Cook Distribution Canada has taken over CMC
Distribution, effective August 31. CMC, based in Niagara-on-the-Lake,
Ontario, was touted as “the world’s largest distributor of
Christian music outside the United States” distributing music and
videos to Canadian Christian retail stores.

According to ChristianRetailing.com, Cook “will
create a new music and media sales and marketing division,” which
will employ “sales, marketing and promotional personnel from
CMC.”
“Having CMC and their talented sales and
marketing staff join David C. Cook fits perfectly into our global mission
of transforming lives by producing and distributing life changing resources
throughout the world,” stated C. Ryan Dunham, Cook’s senior
vice president of sales and marketing.
