Outreach Training
As More Than Gold is helping churches and individuals together get ready for the
Olympic event, now only months away, it is facilitating six two-hour ‘Outreach Training’ events in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.
These events are key to enrolling volunteers and equipping them to be witnesses, both to Olympic Games visitors and to their neighbours.
The main speaker at these events is David Macfarlane of the Billy Graham
Evangelistic Association of Canada. He has had extensive experience in
preparing Christians for large events.
The first two sessions took place in Surrey, at Cedar Grove Baptist September 25
and Richmond Pentecostal September 26.
Broadway Church in Vancouver will host identical sessions, October 16 at 7 pm
and October 17 at 9 am. The Fraser Valley is being served with sessions on
November 13, 7 pm at Abbotsford’s Northview Community Church and November 14, 9 am at Langley’s Christian Life Assembly.
More Than Gold is encouraging church leaders and Christians throughout the area
to grasp this one-time opportunity for witness and service. MTG is also
offering free bulletin inserts. Contact: k_anderson01@hotmail.com
New venue bases
There are four main Games venues. More Than Gold has announced that it will have
a presence close to each one:
• Thunderbird Stadium (UBC) – MTG Venue Base: University Chapel. This church is within walking distance of the UBC, and will have lots of
pedestrians walking by.
• Richmond Oval – MTG Base: Trinity Lutheran / World Harvest Church. Trinity is across the road from Minoru Park, which will become the city’s main public space – to be named the ‘O Zone.’

• Colosseum (PNE) – MTG Base: West Coast Christian Fellowship. With a building only two blocks from the Hastings PNE entrance and a short walk
from the Colosseum, the location could not be more ideal.
• GM Place (Downtown) – MTG Base: Coastal Church. This church is leading the way in grasping opportunities at the time of the
Games, and is located in one of the busiest pedestrian areas of the downtown
core. The church has produced an inspiring short video of its plans for the
time of the Games – go to www.morethangold.ca to watch it!
It is anticipated these MTG Venue Bases will provide gathering points for MTG
volunteers during the days of the Games.
