Buchanan in the lead
‘In the Name of Jesus: Leadership as Discipleship’ is the theme of a presentation to be conducted by popular author and pastor
Mark Buchanan. According to organizers, it will be “an interactive seminar that uses three touch points of Jesus’ life and ministry – his presence, his power and his heart – to explore our own leadership, whether church-based or otherwise. The hope is
that participants would lead more like Jesus.” The event runs November 22–24 at Honeymoon Bay Retreat. Reservations must be confirmed before October 24.

Gingerbread
Supporters of Habitat for Humanity – and its ministry of enabling people, who otherwise could not do so, to have
homes of their own – will be interested to know about the Gingerbread House Party Gala. The event is
set for Wednesday, November 18, from 5:30 to 8:30 pm at the Inn at Laurel Point
in Victoria. To get a ticket order form, either for groups or individuals,
e-mail gingerbread@habitatvictoria.ca or call 250.480.7688.
Mary Magdalene
Gipp and Donna Forster, who have a long pastoral association with Gateway
Baptist Church, have released a description of the Mary Magdalene Ministry
(MMM). Noting that MMM was there “before we arrived and will remain after we are gone,” they say the ministry “seeks to reach out, to touch those who society has shrugged off, and refuses to
claim responsibility for any of them. Those ‘ladies of the night,’ who long to belong – whose tears, whose hopes are no different than yours or mine. Whose children do
not know of any other way, and wonder why they cannot see what other children
see.” More information is available by contacting Gateway at 250.658.5121.
Hallowfest
Saanich Commonwealth Place will ‘rock’ with a Hallowfest on October 31, spearheaded by the youth ministry at Saanich
Baptist Church. Last year, there were four live bands, food, prizes, a games
room, sumo suits and gravity pull. Organizers hold out promise that the same
variety will be there this year. The event runs 7–11 pm, with a cost of $10. More info from Saanich Baptist, at 250.744.2020.
McWilliams move
Duncan and Chemainus people who will remember Andrew and Sarah McWilliam – from their involvement in Young Life (YL) ministry and, before that, Chemainus’ Calvary Baptist Church – will be pleased to know they are settling nicely into YL work in Vernon, in the
Okanagan Valley. Sarah is reaching the end of her pregnancy leave, before
returning to nursing in January after the birth of their third child.

Lots of photos
Also from the Nanaimo body of Christ, you can see a few dozen excellent photos
of this past summer’s events connected with Neighbourhood Church, a Mennonite Brethren congregation.
You’ll find them on the church website at: www.neighbourhoodchurch.net. For more
details about why this congregation has so much fun, you can call the church

Second Cup
Christ Community Church, a contemporary congregation associated with the
Christian Reformed Church, is hosting another year of Second Cup.
It is a ‘coffee break’ type of program for women, held each Wednesday from 9:30 to 11 am. It is both
for women who are regular church attenders, and those less familiar with the
practice.
The announcement on the church website (www.cccvictoria.ca) notes that “for those of you with little cappuccinos, there is child care provided, with
three categories: nursery (0-2) Little Lambs (3s) and Story Hour (age 4-5).”
The church is on Holland Avenue, just off Wilkinson Road, a few blocks north of
Highway 1 and the Portage Inlet.
