NOT MANY independent B.C. Christian musicians have
enough material to justify a ‘best of’ album – but
Heather Clark is one of them. With more than 15 albums to her credit,
it’s no exaggeration to call this Kamloops-based singer/songwriter a
one-woman worship phenomenon.
Her latest release is Sacred
Mystery, Volume 2. For those who need a crash
course in Clark’s previous output, her recent Collect the Years ‘greatest
hits’ CD is just the ticket.
This collection is mostly uptempo, and standouts
include the celebratory ‘Raise a Shout’; ‘Shadow of Your
Wings,’ extolling God’s protection; ‘Deeper,’ which
sings of communion with God; and ‘The Lord Reigns’ – to
which one can only say ‘Amen.’
Some of Clark’s choruses rely on the
repetition of key phrases – which might be an acquired
taste for some listeners.
But this style can also be a great blessing, when one
is in the right frame of mind to hear those phrases.

In the end, there is no denying this woman’s
talent and passion. This is clearly demonstrated on ‘Son of
David,’ where she repeatedly sings: “Jesus, son of David, have
mercy on me!” Indeed, how could one not sing that line over and over?
