Watt to First

Dan Watt is the new pastor at First Baptist in Vernon
| Dan Watt, formerly the
Baptist Union of Western Canada’s church planting and church health
director, is beginning this month as senior minister at First Baptist
Church, Vernon. Watt is moving from Victoria. In addition to his more
recent work, Watt has been a pastor or associate pastor at several Baptist
churches in western Canada for several decades.
Vietnam return
David Kalamen, senior
pastor at Kelowna Christian Centre, will soon be returning to Vietnam
– following on from his trip there in the summer. He was part of an
Open Bible Faith Fellowship (OBFF) delegation working alongside the house
churches in Vietnam. They were there to offer leadership, support and
advice to a church movement that is, in the words of a note about his visit
on the KCC website, “seeing dynamic revival.”
Executive assistant
Trinity Baptist Church is on the lookout for an
executive assistant to work with both the senior pastor and executive
pastor. The posting can be found at www.trinitybaptist.net. It notes that
the person filling this position will provide “executive level
support” to the particular pastors.
New curriculum
Powers Creek Community Church in Westbank, a
congregation affiliated with the Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada,
is working with some curriculum ideas developed by its pastor couple, Troy
and Teresa McKnight in their previous pastorate in upstate New York. The
cutting edge material, called 252 Basic, is written every two months, and
is geared to different age groups. Indications are that the
curriculum was at least a partial factor in the growth of the Canandaigua,
New York, church from 150 to 1,400, from 1996 to 2004.

Global Action
Vernon Alliance Church is doing some new things with
its website, including offering Global Action Partners, a mission-oriented
video, available through a podcast subscription. The site also outlines
Neighbourhood Life, a three-year cycle small group arrangement which the
leaders believe is a key to strengthening its fellowship and community
service aspects. More details are at www.vernonalliance.org.
Daily Guide
There are many ways to get some guidance for a daily
Bible reading and prayer time. One in the Okanagan Valley, available
online, is offered through Trinity United Church in Vernon. Three short
passages of scripture are offered each day, along with easy-to-follow
comments and suggestions for making prayer a natural thing in one’s
devotional life. It would appear from the site that different churches
throughout B.C. are responsible, on rotation, to provide the materials for
the guide. In the particular week this item was written, Ladner and St.
Stephen’s United Churches in the Vancouver area contributed the
material.
Oops!
In the November issue of Okanagan
Outlook, we had a story about the Kelowna City
Church Intercessor movement, in which we listed the co-leaders from the
several churches involved in its development. Included in the story was
mention that Will Sanchon, the senior minister of Evangel Church, was the Evangel
representative on the leadership team. That information is incorrect. The
Evangel representative is, in fact, Ken Faust – who is also that congregation’s lay
prayer leader. We apologize for that slip-up.
