Gospel according to Handel
The Handel Society of Music is a non-profit organization staging performances in
the Lower Mainland.
It specializes in sacred choral works by composers such as Bach, Puccini,
Mozart, Haydn, Schubert and, of course, Handel.
The latter’s masterpiece, Messiah, is the society’s Christmas offering. It is scheduled December 12, 7:30 pm, at Good Shepherd
Church in Surrey. Tickets: handelsociety.ca.
That’s a lot of Trees!
This Christmas, Broadway Church in Vancouver will celebrate the 40th anniversary
of its Singing Christmas Tree, with ‘A Christmas Tale’ running December 4 – 7 and 11 – 14.
Broadway produced the first such event in Canada, for an audience of only a few
hundred people. It is now a city-wide tradition seen by some 22,000 people each
year.
“It is a great way for us to share in the lives of those in our community,” said music director Lonnie Delisle. Free tickets for the Tree will likely go
fast. They are available December 2, 9 am at Broadway. Contact:

A bigger feast
Wagner Hills Ministries have been in the Fraser Valley for 28 years. They have
helped thousands of people battling addictions. Over 1,000 have completed the year-long residential
program. For the first time, December 19, the ministry is expanding its
Christmas banquet to invite past residents, friends and family. “In the past we’ve not had the space,” executive director Helmut Boehm told BCCN. “We are excited to have Voices of Freedom, a 35-member mixed choir of ex-addicts
and residents, perform for us,” he said.
