BENNY JONES (pictured with his wife Gladys) is an
esteemed seniors minister.
Now pastor emeritus at White Rock Baptist Church, he
remains active as a chaplain to seniors at Westminster House, adjacent to
the church.
At 82, Benny has been married to Gladys for 53 years;
they have six children and 13 grandchildren.
He grew up in Ontario, earning degrees from McMaster.
He moved to Burnaby in 1975, and in 1990 went to White Rock Baptist.
Asked about seniors ministry, he said, “People
are more aware of what going on in the world today. There are more
facilities and they are better, with more activities. It keeps people busy
and active.”
“White Rock is now no longer only seniors but
young families. We have over 100 volunteers that help put on a weekly hot
lunch for over 150 mostly older seniors.”
Memorial services are a significant aspect of
Benny’s ministry. “In the last two weeks I will have led four
services,” he said.
