RELIGION in Canada is not what it used to be. A search for spirituality is
leading many Canadians back to a religious involvement very much different from
what most existing groups have to offer.
Sociologist Reg Bibby has been tracking the beliefs of Canadian teens and adults for more than three decades, and offers a unique
perspective on the trends affecting religion and various approaches to
spirituality.
Bibby headlines the annual Epiphany Explorations symposium, sponsored by First
Metropolitan United Church in Victoria, January 21 – 25.
The author of several books focusing on religious trends, Bibby’s latest work looks at the boomer generation and the emerging generation of
teenagers, and their startling attitudes to religion. Bibby’s presentation, ‘Beyond the Gods . . . and Back?’ kicks off the five-day event – which draws participants from around the world.
Leonard Sweet is an author, preacher, scholar, futurist and historian of North
American culture, twice voted one of the 50 most influential Christians in
America by ChurchReport magazine. Sweet will tackle some of the forces threatening the planet earth, in
his session titled: ‘The Coming Four Horsemen: How You can Read the Signs of your Life and Times.’
