THE QUMRAN manuscripts will begin a long stay in Canada later this month, at the
Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) in Toronto.
Dead Sea Scrolls:Words that Changed the World is being billed as “a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see one of the greatest archaeological finds of the 20th century: the earliest record of biblical patriarchs and prophets known to Judaism, Christianity and
Islam.”
The ROM is also touting the exhibit as “an opportunity for interfaith dialogue among varied traditions with shared
roots.”
The object of much scholarly conjecture and controversy, the scrolls were
discovered between 1947 and 1956. The ROM display will feature portions of
Genesis, Deuteronomy, Daniel and Psalms.
It will also include the Book of War, described as “a ceremonial blessing to be recited over the surviving community of Israel after the final battle at the end of time.”
The exhibit will also feature more than 200 ancient artifacts, including fragments from Israel’s Second Temple.
The exhibit runs from June 27 to January 3.
