Papal Rome exhibit at National Gallery
|
|
|
From Raphael to Carracci: The Art of Papal Rome is the highlight of the summer season at the National Gallery of Canada in
Ottawa. The gallery is the only Canadian venue for this overview of art from
the 16th century.
Some 150 paintings and drawings by approximately 70 artists will be exhibited,
including rarities works by Michelangelo, Titian, Raphael and El Greco; and
works by lesser-known artists such as Giorgio Vasari, Federico Barocci, Giulio
Roman, Francesco Salviati and Annibale Carracci.
According to the Gallery, comprehensive explorations of this “particularly ambitious and dramatic period of cultural history . . . are
especially rare.”
The exhibit runs until September 7.
