Blind Boys of Alabama
The ever-popular Blind Boys of Alabama are coming back to B.C., this time on a
tour which will benefit CNIB’s work for the blind.
The group, formed in 1939, has received many accolades in recent years. They won
a Grammy for their latest album, Down in New Orleans. Touring with them is soul singer Ruthie Foster.
They will perform at The Centre in Vancouver, June 14; and the Royal Theatre,

American Idols Live
This year’s American Idol Top 10 finalists are embarking on a 50-city tour. For many Christians, the top
attraction will be Kris Allen. In addition to his surprise May 20 victory over
Adam Lambert, Allen is also known as a worship leader.
Christian faith is becoming increasingly associated with Idol. Author Mark Joseph writes: “The large presence of Christian performers heralds a new era of integration into
mainstream culture by people of faith.”
The show is coming to GM Place, Vancouver, July 8.
Vancouver Folk Festival
The 32nd annual Vancouver Folk Music Festival takes place in July, with over 60
artists from 14 countries.
The line-up this year includes Mavis Staples, Vancouver-based VOC Soul Gospel
Choir with Checo Tohomaso; Roy Forbes; Veda Hille; Bellowhead; Great Lake
Swimmers; The Proclaimers; The Weakerthans; and Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band. This is a secular event, but it usually includes an impromptu
worship service Sunday morning.

Mission Folk Festival
The 22nd annual Mission Folk Music Festival takes place in late July. Performers
this year include Tom Paxton, Jane Bunnett, Colin Linden, Tagaq, The Outside
Track, Tenores di Neoneli and Canefire.

Back to the Blues
Billed as a ‘Gospel Blues Festival,’ this Christian family event takes place in Chilliwack.
This year’s musicians include Jessy Dixon, Ashley Cleveland, Graham Ord, Darrell
Mansfield, and The Trimmed and Burnin’ Blues Project.
The event raises money to provide fresh drinking water to Third World
communities, through water drilling projects. By 2012, the organizers hope to
have provided fresh drinking water to 10,000 people.
