WE HAVE come a long way since the Puritans closed the theatres. Christians have come to accept and even
embrace the theatre.
A number of drama companies, some of them Christian, are offering a wide variety
of summer performances. Some of the plays have a ‘Christian’ message, while others offer insight into the human condition.
The geographical location of some of these productions also gives intrepid
theatre-goers a chance to get out of town for awhile.
Chemainus Theatre
This professional theatre company in Chemainus, on Vancouver Island, has strong
Christian roots. This summer, the group is presenting the classic musical Oklahoma.

The theatre’s KidzPlay series is presenting The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Rosebud Theatre
Billed as ‘Alberta’s largest rural theatre,’ this troupe also has Christian roots. This summer, it is presenting the classic
musical Man of La Mancha, based on Don Quixote.

Rosebud is also presenting Confessions of a Paperboy, a comedy about a boy who hears the voice of God speaking to him.

Canadian Badlands Passion Play
Presented outdoors in Drumheller, Alberta, this dramatic depiction of the life,
death and resurrection of Jesus features animals, elaborate sets and a
dedicated cast of volunteers.

Bard on the Beach

Arts Club Theatre
